Product Introduction
Advantages
1.Required plastic material is reduced (material savings)
2.Reduced part weight (up to 40% in some circumstances) 3.Reduced cycle time 4.Increased part strength and stiffness 5.Reduced warp-age and distortion 6.Improved part appearance (eliminates dent marks and surface imperfections)
7.Ribbed components with reinforcement
8.More design choices for complex parts, less assembly of many pieces, and metal-to-plastic conversions
9.Allows for the use of smaller plastic injection molding presses.
Pressurized gas takes the path of least resistance in gas-assisted injection molding, replacing plastic material in thicker regions of the part and leaving hollow sections to reduce material consumption and part weight without impacting part aesthetic or functional performance.
Localized gas pressure within the mold provides for better plastic packing, resulting in less warpage, shrinkage, surface flaws, dent marks, and internal strains using gas-assisted molding. Gas-assisted injection molding produces stronger, more aesthetically attractive products.
Gas-assisted molding is used to strengthen ribbed pieces and allows for greater design freedom for complex parts, eliminating multi-part assembly and metal-to-plastic conversions.
Less demand for plastic ingredients, as well as consistent mold pressure, allow gas-assisted injection molding plastics to cool faster, lowering cycle durations and boosting injection molding machine throughput - saving time and money.
The internal pressure generated by nitrogen in gas-assisted injection molding minimizes the external pressures required to preserve the shape of the part, allowing big plastic components to be manufactured on smaller injection molding machines with less tonnage.
Applications
Some applications benefiting from gas assist plastic injection molding include:
Appliance handles
Medical equipment housings
Interior and exterior automotive handles
Large covers and panels for office equipment
Lawn mower handles
Steering wheels
Basketball backboard frames
Long tubular shapes, such as shovel handles
Large parts with ribs and bosses
