What Are The Structural Elements To Be Considered in Mold Design

May 06, 2022

1. Parting surface, that is, the contact surface between the die and the punch when the die is closed. The choice of its location and form is affected by factors such as product shape and appearance, wall thickness, molding method, post-processing technology, mold type and structure, demolding method, and molding machine structure.

2. Structural parts, i.e. sliders, inclined tops, straight top blocks for complex molds, etc. The design of structural parts is very critical, which is related to the life of the mold, processing cycle, cost, product quality, etc. Therefore, the design of the complex mold core structure requires a higher comprehensive ability of the designer, and pursues a simpler, more durable and more economical design as much as possible.

3. Mold accuracy, i.e. to avoid jamming, jing to determine positioning, guide posts, positioning pins, etc. The positioning system is related to the appearance quality of the product, the quality of the mold and the service life. Choose different positioning methods according to different mold structures. Positioning accuracy control mainly depends on processing. The positioning of the inner mold is mainly considered by the designer to design a more reasonable and easy-to-adjust positioning method.

4. Gating system, that is, the feeding channel from the nozzle of the injection molding machine to the cavity, including the main channel, branch channel, gate and cold cavity. In particular, the location of the gate should be chosen so that the molten plastic fills the cavity with good flow. Solid runners and cold material adhering to the product are easily ejected from the mold and can be removed when the mold is opened (hot flow) (except for the channel mold).

5. Plastic shrinkage and various factors that affect the dimensional accuracy of products, such as mold manufacturing and assembly errors, mold wear, etc. In addition, when designing compression molds and plastic injection molds, matching machines for molding process and structural parameters should also be considered. Computer-aided design techniques have been widely used in plastic mold design.
